Public Hearings for Proposed Amendments to the Burin Peninsula Highway (Route #210) and Bonavista Peninsula Highway (Route #230A), Provincial Protected Road Plans

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is considering amending the Highway Zoning Plan Bonavista Peninsula Highway R.R. 230, 1976 – 1981. The purpose of the Amendment No. 1, 2017 (“Bonavista PRP Amendment”) is to accommodate a residential lot and development in the Local Service District of George’s Brook-Milton, north of Clarenville and adjacent to the Bonavista Peninsula Highway, Route #230A. The subject property is proposed to be rezoned from “Rural Conservation” to “Residential”. A public hearing is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, to receive objections and representations from the public. The hearing is scheduled to be held at the main building of the College of the North Atlantic, 69 Pleasant Street. Anyone wishing to submit comments and/or planning on attending the hearing must contact the undersigned by 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018.

The Department is also considering amending the Burin Peninsula Highway Zoning Plan. The purpose of Amendment No. 1, 2017 (“Burin PRP Amendment”) is to accommodate a cottage lot and development off of the Old Baie de L’Eau Road, adjacent to the Burin Peninsula Highway, Route #210. The subject property is proposed to be rezoned from “Rural Conservation” to “Cottage”. A public hearing is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018, to receive objections and representations from the public. The hearing will tentatively be held at the main building of the College of the North Atlantic campus, 105 Main Street, Burin Bay Arm. Anyone wishing to submit comments and/or planning on attending the hearing must contact the undersigned by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018.

The draft amendments are available by downloading the attachments or by contacting the undersigned, as below. The commissioner will hear any oral statements and accept any written comments submitted at the hearings. Any input will be considered by the department prior to refusing, or approving and registering the amendments.

If no written submissions are received or no indications of intent to attend the public hearings are received by the deadlines indicated above, the Department may cancel either or both public hearings.
